Wiebke Thomsen

Wiebke Thomsen was born in Georgsmarienhütte in 1982. She grew up in Oldenburg and moved to Leipzig to study cultural studies, film studies and philosophy.

After her studies, she worked in a cinema on the island Amrum, for an English language culture magazine in Iceland and as deputy cinema manager of an arthouse cinema in Hanover.

In 2014 she opened the City Kino Wedding with her colleague Anne Lakeberg, which in the following years became a cherished cinema in Germany´s capital. In 2018, Wiebke Thomsen and her husband Johannes opened the Lodderbast Kino in Hanover in a small space of just 39 square meters, which was awarded four cinema program prizes of Lower Saxony, the cinema prize of the Deutsche Kinemathek association and was voted Germany’s most popular cinema in 2020.

Since 2023, Wiebke and Johannes have been on the road with their mobile Lodderbast Kino, their debut film ONCE UPON A TIME IN GERMANY and their international short film festival REELS ON WHEELS. They are living and working in a caravan and putting on cinema events wherever it is urgently needed or simply just fun. In addition, Wiebke works as a host and jury member at various film festivals and film competitions and is a regular guest at panel discussions and film theory courses.
