After the Second World War, Eugen Mertz, son of a Stuttgart winemaker family, was involved in the urban development of Stuttgart. In 1947 he rebuilt the luxury hotel Marquardt, which had been badly damaged in the war, as a commercial building, which has also housed a cinema ever since. With GLORIA, METROPOL, EM and CINEMA, four cinemas now belong to the Innenstadtkinos and shape the film culture of Stuttgart.
Every 2nd Monday of the month, the CINEMA FUTURO film series at CINEMA offers a glimpse of the future of cinema. Here films are shown that throb and capture. Modern, extraordinary and with a changing country focus. The film series wants to stir up a thirst for adventure and curiosity about new, rule-breaking cinema. Each film is personally curated, presented and discussed with a lot of passion.

More than 100 years of cinema in Göppingen: Wilhelm Huttenlocher, who died in 1956 at the age of 87, had seen a showing of French films at a fair as a young baker soon after the Lumière brothers had invented their cinematograph in France in 1895, and was immediately grabbed by the idea of showing films. His whole striving was aimed at one day owning his own cinema. As a first step towards realizing this plan, he ran a film distribution business next to his bakery from 1905 on. Two years later the time had come.
More than a hundred years later the cinema is still running in Göppingen, under new artistic direction since 2023.

EXPOSED. For one weekend, the aka-Filmclub Freiburg will be the focal point of film events: there's shooting, tinkering, adulterating... Three-minute masterpieces on eight millimeters are created here from the first idea to the screening - in 72 hours. That means forming a film crew, developing the script, acting, filming, developing the film material yourself and cutting it if necessary.
The film results will be premiered on Monday at 8 p.m., set to sound by us - then we will show our found footage Super8 film ONCE UPON A TIME IN GERMANY.
