Johannes Thomsen
Johannes Thomsen was born in Hanover in 1981, where he grew up and went to school. Johannes moved to Bremen and Marburg to study German, politics and law.
After graduating, he worked as a marketing manager at a cooking school, as a copywriter in advertising agencies in Lower Saxony and Bavaria, and furthermore as a freelance film and literary critic for various newspapers.
In 2018, Johannes Thomsen and his wife Wiebke opened the Lodderbast Kino in Hanover in a small space of just 39 square meters, which was awarded four cinema program prizes of Lower Saxony, the cinema prize of the Deutsche Kinemathek association and was voted Germany’s most popular cinema in 2020.
Since 2023, Johannes and Wiebke have been on the road with their mobile Lodderbast Kino, their debut film ONCE UPON A TIME IN GERMANY and their international short film festival REELS ON WHEELS. They are living and working in a caravan and putting on cinema events wherever it is urgently needed or simply just fun. In addition, Johannes works as a host at various film festivals and cultural events and is a frequent speaker at panel discussions. He also develops business concepts, websites, web designs, graphic designs, PR strategies and text concepts for cultural institutions – including for all of his own projects (Lodderbast, Calenberger Palme, Bastalavista IGFF, Reels On Wheels, Once Upon A Time In Germany, etc. ), for whose business conception, graphic and content implementation and commercial development he is responsible.
